Appointments can be made by email, telephone, or by letter. Many patients prefer to self-refer and this is entirely appropriate. However, letters from GPs or other specialists are useful and welcome.

Your confidentiality will be respected at all times. Consultations take place at the private wing (Lindo Wing) of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London W2.

What to expect during the consultation

It is not always easy to discuss sexual matters. A keystone of our management is a compassionate approach. We give patients the time and space to tell us about their problems in their own words and we understand that doing this may be difficult emotionally.

It is very useful to bring copies of all relevant previous consultations and laboratory and radiology records with you, as well as a list of any medications you are taking.

Bringing your partner with you may be useful but you do not have to do this in most cases.

We will want to examine you at some point during your management. If there are particular anxieties about the examination, we will listen very carefully to these. This may mean deferring the examination to a later date. We will explain exactly what will be done at the examination and there will be a chaperone where necessary according to your wishes.

We will draw up a summary of your case which we will forward to both you and your GP or other specialist. We are happy to receive email communications from yourself at any time and be assured they will be replied to promptly. We can provide private prescriptions for your medications.

Private Medical Insurance

We advise that you contact your insurer before your initial appointment. Some insurance companies insist on your first having had a referral from your GP or another consultant, so it is particularly important to contact your insurer if you are considering a self-referral. Payments need to be at the time of the consultation, either BACS, cheque or cash.

You will be asked to settle your account on the same day of your consultation. We accept BACS, cheque or cash.
